steady

God gave me some more pain today
just like every day for the last 10 years counting
He knows I am stubborn
And that I need this pain
So that I do not take any day for granted
and so that I value each day

still a few dreams

_89235485_89235484

it took a long time
to be able to wear
my face again
after everything
I loved
had died
I would run for hours
on the levies
out by the water
I never returned home
but I always returned
to the place I live
I ran for months
and the months
became years
as I ran for hundreds
if not thousands
of miles
in all that time
all I asked for
was a sign
a sign that
things would be all right
but that sign never came
then one day
as I ran the levy
between storms
in bone cold starkness
a monarch butterfly
appeared and followed me
she should not have
been out that late
in the season
flying alone
in a zigzag path
against the grain of winter
she disappeared
but surprisingly
an hour later
when I left the levy
to run the streets
she reappeared
and again followed me
like a flickering flame
as it began to rain
it was at that moment
I knew that
things would be all right

Juneteenth

In 1862 Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.

This outlawed slavery.

Not all agreed.

This led to the Civil War.

Juneteenth celebrates June 19, 1865, announcement of General Order No. 3 by Union Army general Gordon Granger, proclaiming and enforcing freedom of enslaved people in Texas.

The last confederate state to free it’s slaves.

Slavery continued in America within Union border states – Delaware and Kentucky – until December 6, 1865, when the ratification of the Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution abolished chattel slavery nationwide.

Additionally, Indian Territories that had sided with the Confederacy, namely the Choctaw, were the last to release those enslaved, in 1866.

All Slavery ended in America in 1866.

Today, I think the important thing is that

we don’t forget the pain of these times and subsequently,

and that we all support each other,

so we can all live a better life together going forward.

Wonderful Life

Thank you Forrest for finding our long lost sister! I will always wish we could have had more time together but at least we had time together thanks to you. That you both got on Ancestry within months of each other is truly a miracle! I am absolutely heartbroken that she is gone and that we only got to know each other for so short of a time. That said…..Rest in Peace sweet sister Susan……you will always have a special place in our hearts.

Well, I’ll put it this way…
Susan contacted me because of match on Ancestry 3/7/19.
What are the odds of my randomly taking test and her randomly taking test?
The “science” provided the undisputed match.
We caught her during the last 2 years of her life.
Her life with parents/sibliing growing up was tough.
She felt very loved to suddeningly have 4 siblings.

That something like this would take place in the last 2 years in her life and give us all a chance
to meet and know each other…

Well, if that’s not a “miracle” I don’t know what is…

We were very lucky to make a connection with Susan in her last 2 years.
I know she appreciates the love she felt from her biological siblings.

Thank you girls for all you have done to make her feel like one of us.
And loved.

love,

Forrest 🙂
